Victoria Inner Harbour / NEW CD
Hey everyone. I'll be playing quite often at the Victoria Inner Harbour this summer, just come on down to see my play. I'll be selling CD's there as well but mostly just trying to get my name out a little bit. I'll post showtimes on the EVENTS page. Most shows will be on weekends of weekday evenings, and sometimes i'll drop by un-announced. Additionally, I'm working on a new CD with all new acoustic material. So far it's sounding pretty good and I hope to have it finished mid-June. Adam's Departure
Well, Adam decided to peace Victoria, and the Peak Performance Project. His leaving Victoria for nonsense reasons means I can no longer participate in the contest. However, I will still be writing and recording music regularily, as well as performing at the Inner harbour this summer. This feels like 10 steps backwards to me right now, after all the build up to our band and getting things going, I feel like I'm back to square one. I suppose I'm looking for a band now

Adam Kozlick and I have joined forces, creating a new group called "Lucky Parrot" We have just completed 2 recordings with myself on Vocals, Guitar, and Bass, while Adam plays Piano, and Drums. Our two new songs, 'Sky High' and 'Holiday' can be heard on the audio player, or downloaded in the Music / Downloads page. We have entered these two songs in the Peak Performance Project, and await the results! Also check out some new pictures!
Plus, I will be performing at the Inner Harbour causeway in beautiful Victoria, BC, almost every day over the summer! I will be posting scheduled show times as they are arranged! More to come very soon...

Happy New Year 2010
And what a year it'll be
In focusing my efforts right now on mainly acoustic work, I have just launched a new Youtube channel to feature acoustic versions of many of my past songs as well as all of my new ones. The first 3 up were covers of Times Like These (Foo Fighters) and Coming Home (City & Colour) as well as a brand new original song, Skyhigh. I have just finished recordings of 4 more, and will be editing those and posting them to Youtube asap. My channel name is DerekNissenMusic so please check it out and SUBSCRIBE! The Office Lounge
New Show Announcement!
I'm scheduled to perform a solo acoustic show at a brand new lounge in Victoria, The Office Lounge. This place has great food, great drink, great staff, and the perfect setting for my first acoustic show in Victoria. I'm hoping for this to become more of a regular event, be it weekly or monthly, but if this show goes well I should be back soon. The show starts Friday August 7th sometime around 6pm (will confirm exact time asap). I will be playing a mix of originals and covers, with some new songs to be tried out for the first time! I'm really looking forward to this, so come check it out if you're in the area! There's no cover charge so just come sit down, relax, enjoy a drink and hear my first live performance in Victoria!

Living In The City
Well I just got into Victoria this week, and i'm so glad to finally be in the city! I'm still in the process of getting a band lined up, and am very excited at the idea of playing some kickass live shows soon!
Additionally, I'm going to line up some solo acoustic gigs in the meantime at various lounges, pubs, cafe's and what have you. I'm also planning on playing some imprompt streetside shows downtown or by the waterfront. Soon as I know the times and places that I will be, I will post it up here, so check back regularily if you'd like to catch me live. See ya out there Victoria!

Last Minute Larry

About 2 months ago I get this call from a friend of mine, recently turned drummer. His jam group lost a guitar player, and with a show in the not-so-distant future, they needed a replacement. With only a month and a half to master 26 songs, we were pushed to practice whenever possible in order to get the set ready. Well, I must say the show on Hornby went great, and what a crowd! Thanks to everyone who made it over to support us, and all the locals for being so hospitable to us. It truly was a great time. Though it was our first show, there are surely more to come, and hopefully very fast! Hello everyone. Finally I have my own ".com" address now! This is pretty exciting for me. I just registered with SOCAN last night so it is now safe for me to put my music online for download. So, I have just added all 10 songs from my upcoming album, but they are still partially incomplete. Drums should be recorded soon, as will be the finishing touches from my end, then once its mixed and mastered I'll be able to get it properly packaged. So, for now, feel free to download the songs from the "Downloads" page or directly from the site-wide media player at the bottom of the page, because once the CD is complete I'll have to start selling them to cover recording costs. Please join the maining list so I can fill you in when important news or announcements come rolling in. Enjoy the sun everybody! Back at ya soon

Welcome To My New Website

My name is Derek Nissen and welcome to my new website! I'm very excited to have this up and running now, and it will only get better. I am currently a solo artist who plays a blend of classic rock infused with a modern touch, with a little acoustic on the side. I am from the Comox Valley in British Columbia, Canada. At present I am finishing up the recording of my debut solo album which should be fully complete in the next month or so, at which time I will have MP3's and CD's for sale through the site. For now I have some incomplete demos available for free download which I hope you will enjoy until the real stuff is ready for release.
